Achievement Unlocked - Another Promise Kept - *DING!*
I think it's safe to say that 80% of what I say and do is meant to amuse Self. As those of you who have read Ash to Ashes will remember (or at least those of you who skipped ahead to "A Note from the Author"), Self and I don't always get along real well. He's not terribly helpful in big decisions. He doesn't contribute to paying the bills or keeping up the apartment. Most of the time, he just sits there in the corner pouting because I stopped talking to him in public. The rare times that he does respond in a conversation, things just get weird. Words like hallucinating and delusional get tossed around. People start showing up with Dixie cups filled with pills like it's some sort of rave (sans strobe lights, glow sticks, and wub-wub music. Come to think of it that makes for a really lame rave. Sounds more like an episode of "Real Housewives.").
Ok. None of that has actually happened. I'm a fiction writer. It's my job to make stuff up for entertainment purposes.
What DID happen, though, is that I finally kept my promise to Self. Tonight, on this one month anniversary of Ash to Ashes going to print, I finally bought Self that cookie.
I should probably note, this isn't the first cookie I've had since April 26, 2017. My mom has been baking a bunch of them that she bought for some fundraising scenario or another. She didn't want them in the house, so of course they came my way. Subway cookies occasionally sang me their siren song over the last month. The greatest cookie caper thus far was when one of my best friends showed up at my front door with two cookies last week and directly referenced the comment in the author's note. (He then proceeded to ask what was up with Riley's father because it was the one thing that didn't get answered for him in the book. Way to use your insider access "J." Excellent question. Good call on the cookie bribe, also.)
But this cookie is special. This cookie is THE cookie. This chocolate chunk cookie is the official "one month anniversary, happy birthday Ash and crew, you successfully published your book" cookie.
It's also the first cookie I remembered to take a picture with and bought for this express purpose...
What? I'm new to this whole social media thing and adjusting to "Pictures or it didn't happen!"
Anyway, promise kept.
Happy One Month Anniversary Ash to Ashes!
And a huge Thank You to everybody who made this such an amazing experience so far! Cheers!
